Several other discounts are also being offered catering to the wallets of the iPhone 3GS 8GB buyers. One such discount gives the buyers a discount of Rs 830 with a Rs 1,429 plan and throws in 500 MB of 3G data, 1,750 minutes of local calls and 1,000 local and national SMSes for free. If this plan doesn't suit your needs here is another plan by Aircel. Buyers can opt for Rs 719 plan where they have to pay a Rs 299 per month and avail free 350 MB of 3G data, 1,000 minutes local calls, 500 local and national SMSes.
Aircel is giving 1 GB of data usage free during the first three months with its data plans. Two things that make iPhone 3GS a attractive buy is that it can be upgraded to the latest iOS 4.3 OS and as it is a unlocked version, mobile users have the freedom to pick or switch networks at will.
Sporting a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, iPhone 3GS is powered by a 600Mhz processor and comes with connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS support, EDGE/GPRS and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP (headset support only). Available in 8/16/32 GB capacities, iPhone 3GS supports 256 MB RAM and includes a 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus capabilities. On the not so bright side, the the iphone 3GS miss out on features like Facetime and 720p HD video.
Earlier released through operators like Vodafone and Airtel in June 2009, the price cut directly pegs Apple iPhone 3GS with popular Android devices like Google Nexus S LCD which retails at about the same price range of Rs 20,000. At the moment Aircel is offering the iPhone 3GS 8GB, but it is highly likely that several others will join the race.
Mike Abramsky of RBC Capital believes that with the launch of iPhone 5 we will be seeing a cost cutting in the recently launched iPhone 4 to $99 ( Rs 4,950) or $499 ( Rs 24,000) unsubsidized and maybe even have a free iPhone 3GS. If iPhone 4 will see a big price cut, come September, we will not be surprised to see another price cut in the Apple 3GS in India.
