You can now pay your BSNL landline bill at any Customer Service Centre (CSC) across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.
A new system – CDR (Call Detail Record) – that offers a host of customer-friendly features has been introduced recently. Bills under the new system, based on call duration, will be issued from next month.
Once the new system gets integrated, landline customers can pay their telephone bills at any customer service centre in the four southern States, irrespective of where the telephone is functioning.
Software by TCS
The system has been introduced on an experimental basis in Hyderabad last year. Most of the problems with the new system have been resolved, according to official sources in the BSNL. The software has been provided by the Tata Consultancy Services and the hardware by the HCL.
The system has also been introduced in 200 of the 328 Telecom Districts in the country and it would be extended to the remaining districts in the next five months. Once that is done, the facilities can be availed of all over the country.
The CDR system also enables family members residing at different locations in the four southern States pay the bill on a single account. Children can make payments at their end and save their aged parents the trouble of paying the bills.
Other facilities
The other facilities under the new system include calling five preferred numbers at discounted rate, a facility that was earlier restricted to mobile customers; online transfer of landline connection across the four states in a jiffy; restoration of disconnected phones within five minutes after the outstanding dues are paid, and rounding off the bill amount and adjusting the same in the next bill.
A database has been set up for centralised billing in Hyderabad for the four Southern States. In the past, detailed bill used to be provided to the customer only on specific request. Customers can now opt for a detailed bill every month on payment of a monthly fee of Rs.50.
Broadband users did not have the convenience of shifting to a new plan during the month in the past. Shifts between plans will now be effective from the date of order as against the first day of the following month in the past. The integration of the databases in Hyderabad and Bangalore has made this possible, according to the sources.
